Nine years ago, Aracari sponsored an exhibition, “El Placer es Más Importante que la Victoria” at Tasneem Gallery in Barcelona, that showcased a selection of young, cutting-edge artists, who would ultimately go on to receive rapturous acclaim internationally. Many of those talented individuals today are represented in major art collections and museums around the world. Gilda Mantilla and Juan Javier Salazar, for example, who were included in the 2011 exhibition, were chosen to represent Peru in the Venice Biennale in the past two editions.
This goes to show for how long Aracari have enjoyed a close association to the art scene in Peru.
Art in Lima
Lima is the thriving centre of Peru’s contemporary and modern arts community. Whether you are interested in pre-Hispanic, vice-regal, republican, contemporary or urban forms of art (including paint, sculpture, pottery or textiles), Aracari can facilitate an incredible array of art experiences and connections for travellers. If you want to learn more about Peruvian urban art, we recommend that you read one of our latest stories featuring “Callao Monumental“.
Some of the museums in Lima we always recommend are the Larco Museum for pre-Hispanic pottery, the Amano Museum a treasure trove of pre-Hispanic textiles and the Mario Testino museum (MATE) for contemporary photography. Aracari can help you make the best of your time by matching your interests to the latest and most interesting exhibitions, private collections across the city.
Art tour
If you are interested visiting art galleries in Lima or perhaps buying art, then all it takes is a phone call for us to organize private visits with gallerists and artists to visit their workshops. We will of course obtain for you VIP passes to the Art Fairs happening in Lima, such as Lima Photo, ParC or Art Lima or arrange curator led visits of the main museums such as MALI. In the past we’ve organised for our travellers to participate in art workshops, visit the homes of private collectors and be guided around the city’s artsy hot spots by art historians, collectors and owners and curators of the city’s established galleries.
We are proud to have designed and organised visits for some of the most prestigious art institutions in the world such as the Centre Pompidou and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art Contemporain, both based in Paris.
