If you’re the adventurous type, looking for a hotel that offers something quirky and different, this might just fit the bill. Skylodge Adventure Suites is an innovative concept – offering rooms that in pods that hang 400 metres (1,312 feet) in the air, off the side of a cliff in the Sacred Valley.
The Skylodge is located 20 minutes’ drive from Urubamba. Driving past on the main highway connecting Cusco to the Sacred Valley, you can look up and see the modules, appearing like glass cocoons protruding from the mountainside. To access the pods, visitors must climb the the 400 metre Via Ferrata, or trek up the mountainside which includes ziplines.
The lodges are referred to as ‘vertical hanging modules’. There are four beds in each module, a dining tray and a bathroom (with a dry, ecological toilet and sink) concealed by an insulated zip-closure wall and curtains. The lights are powered by solar panels, and reading lights are included. Each module is 24 feet long and 8 feet high. The only way to enter is through a portal door on the top of the module, and guests are fastened to safety cords until they are climbing inside for their own safety.
There are three modules in total, named: Luna, Silves and Miranda. Luna is for the guides who accompany guests to lodge and prepare their meals and beverages (dinner and breakfast). Because there is no running water on the mountain, the meals are sourced from local restaurants and carried by the guides, warmed up if necessary and then served to guests in their pod, with wine.
For visitors to the Sacred Valley this is the ultimate adventure experience – an intimate evening spent surrounded by impressive views of the valley and the clear sky above. Skylodge Adventure Suites is a unique and exciting experience in the Sacred Valley for those with an appetite for adventure and the desire to get an entirely new perspective on this region of Peru.
